For those of you who are working from home during this COVID outbreak, you need to still consider your vehicle needs even though you are not driving as much.
If your recommended maintenance interval is 5,000 miles between oil changes, you now have to consider time and not mileage. Remember that just by sitting in your garage idle, the engine oil in your car may still accumulate moisture, that will reduce the viscosity of the oil in your engine. Another consideration is that the oil filter is internally made of paper that is continuing to sit in oil and continues to deteriorate. We would highly recommend that you change your engine oil at a time interval of less than 1 year.
Some other items on your vehicle will deteriorate over time. For example items made out of rubber, such as belts, hoses and tires continue to age over time and not necessarily miles.
